1) Know your customer.
Businesses are often more interested in the fact they have gained a new customer / client
than thinking about putting processes in place. Credit Applications, Credit Checks, Trade
References are all good tools. However, look also at the Directors of the business – have
they had several companies over a short period of time that have all been dissolved?
Consider placing the company on a monitor for 12 months so it flags up if the companies
credit file changes.
2) Invoice content - Terms and conditions attached to invoices.
A clear Invoice is a good invoice. Keep the information basic, avoid clutter, and put the
important parts in bold, larger letters so they stand out. Include the following:
• Customer company or business name.
• Invoice date
• Full product/service description
• Customer order number
• Bank details for payment via Bank Transfer
• Delivery date and method
• VAT number and VAT applicable
• Payment terms
3) Credit limits.
Initially take the first 3 orders payments up front, then run a credit report and ascertain a
Credit Limit. However, keep a close eye on the limit as these are subject to frequent
4) Follow up after sending invoice.
Issue your invoice at the earliest opportunity. Make sure that in between the invoice going
off, and the due date for payment you call the company. Make sure they have received the
invoice, everything is OK and ask how and when it will be paid. This is also good customer
5) Debt collection & Legal Action Policy.
Have a clear, stringent Debt Collection Policy and Basic terms on the reverse of the invoice.
6) Early settlement discounts.
Be careful with this one, as it will come off your bottom line. However, you may find it useful
and successful offering a percentage discount off your invoice if they pay early. i.e 30 day
invoice, however receive 5% discount if paid within 14 days.
7) On stop accounts.
This is a useful tool for regular Clients / Customers. Place accounts on stop if invoices remain
unpaid after a certain period of time past the due date. This can then cause them problems
on re-ordering stock, or wanting to use your service again.
8) Improve Credit Control Function
BE PROACTIVE – Don’t wait until the invoice is overdue before making contact. As
mentioned in point 4, call before the invoice is due. If payment is not received on the due
date, don’t leave it a few more days, get straight on the phone. The term ‘whoever shouts
the loudest gets paid first’ is a casing point here. However, it may be your Credit Control
processes are tired, old or out of date. Strikes CS can help you here with our consultation.
9) Hire a debt collector or restructure.
Similar to point 8, however it sometimes helps putting your Debt Collection Suppliers name
on your final demand. We allow clients to do this and have been told it certainly improves
the response. Make it clear what the time scales are before it is passed to them – remember
name your debt collector – when a debtor sees this in writing, it feels more real that you are
10) Quote upfront.
Surprises are not always fun! Client and Customers don’t sometimes keep a track on what
product or services they are ordering / have ordered. Get a defined pricing structure, keep
the client / customer updated with regular statements. Quote upfront is often overlooked.

I put the abandoned vehicle legal sign that you gave me on an old type Audi which had been just left on our land, and it was quite interesting having several people watching me doing it, but no one came forward to ask me what I was doing. Obviously the word got around and the vehicle was removed within 48 hours. This has saved me having to pay to get it removed and recycled, so a big thank you to strikes B2B Debt Collection agency
To have them moved on without them even staying a night is absolutely great and our tenants on the business park are very grateful. If I had the same service through the courts this would have taken three weeks, and I am sure it would have cost us at least double, especially with the clear up afterwards.
I have known and worked in conjunction with Strikes for sometime now. Chris Bane and his team are reliable and always on hand to assist whenever that may be.
This is the first time we have used a debt collection agency.
I had been chasing the outstanding debt myself for almost six months but Chris managed to reclaim the outstanding monies within a matter of days. Chris was very professional and took away all the stress. I only wish I had contacted Strikes earlier!
We instructed Chris Bane, of Strikes Bailiffs, to evict some travellers from our car park at the John Smith’s Stadium here in Huddersfield. This was done in a very professional manner and to a time scale that meant there was no disruption to our business, tenants or customers. We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending Chris Bane, of Strikes Bailiffs to anyone needing the services of a Bailiff.
Strikes CS have provided a service that we will most certainly be using again and I feel confident recommending to other businesses without reservation. The results speak for themselves! Thank you for your continuing support over the last 12 months.
